I think in far to many cases companies focus so much on the bottom line they forget what effects their bottom line the most. Without the proper workforce and I do play chess I agree check mate...
In order to acquire and retain you must focus on what it takes to have a talented, motivated and co-hesive workforce. Understand who wants to frequent or work in a place that has no representation of them. You must know your customer/candidate in order to serve them best.

Re: The Five Trends Impacting Business Today, Tomorrow and Future… Part I – III

Great post David. It seems that there is one type of customer who is generally excluded in any discussion such as this and that is the Candidate. A candidate applying for a position with a company also has certain expectations similar to those that you mentioned in your blog. And those expectations will be influenced by ethnicity, age, gender etc. Companies need to be thinking about their candidates as customers regardless of what type of company they are because meeting the candidate's expectations can also have a significant impact on bottom line. As an example, if a company sells computer products and their candidate/customer experience is less than stellar, chance are good that candidate/customer will never buy that company's product. They will also tell their friends, who will tell their friends.... etc.Candidates are Customers.

Re: Some Tips for Finding Innovators

Another GREAT piece Dan! keep them coming!

Re: Is it possible to truly integrate HR, Talent Management and Diversity into the corporate DNA, if so, how?

You would think that in this day and age companies would understand that hiring the best talent has nothing to do with the job description. The companies who understand this, and there are a few, place much of their hiring decision on the answers to the following questions. Can the candidate do what is expected of them, have they done something similar in the past, can they explain what they have done and can it be verified? This same approach can and should be applied when building project teams. You want experience, skills and different backgrounds, experience and personality. The team lead needs to understand the makeup of the team and more importantly how best to communicate with each team member. The approach you would use with a soon to retire employee is not the same that you would use with a Gen Y employee. Great post. Thanks.

Re: Is it possible to truly integrate HR, Talent Management and Diversity into the corporate DNA, if so, how?

An organization needs to see that diversity is about impacting the bottom-line by taking full advantage of the skills and talents of all employees and striving for a more inclusive environment. Successful businesses must align their core business objectives with diversity strategies and build intercultural sensitivity and competence. The end result is increased productivity, innovative and creative thinking and products.

The work force continues to change whether an organization is located in one small geographic area or around the globe. Even immigration issues have an impact on our hiring practices. Businesses are faced with other changes such as the need to devlop innovative products and services to meet the needs of a more diverse customer base, diverse communities and working effectively with diverse vendos and suppliers

Re: Is it possible to truly integrate HR, Talent Management and Diversity into the corporate DNA, if so, how?

Thank you Joe, I am in total agreement with you. I also think that there is a missed opportunity for organizations of all sizes to stop making excuses that they can not find skillful talent from various backgrounds right inside their 4 walls. As soon as they figure out the talent is there, then the real work begins by really leveraging the talent as well as, promoting the talent. In addition, ensuring that there are systems, policies and practices in place to capitalize on that investment. And the investment is "People". I appreciate your comment and your real dialog around the content here. Hopefully more people will comment and share their insights.

Re: Zapoint showcases CIS for using Skills Mapper

Interesante, yo cotizaciуn en mi sitio mбs tarde.

Truden

Re: Innovation – A Simple Definition and Purpose

This is the directions every organization should focus on.
